Be sure to get all of the required documents for applications because only complete applications will be considered in the selection process. The necessary documents are:
- Application form for the program you are planning to attend (either Nihon University, Japan, or Thammasat University, Thailand).
- Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended. Have these sent directly to
Undergraduate Economics Advisor
University of Hawaii at Manoa
2424 Maile Way
Saunders 542
Honolulu, HI, USA 96822
- One (1) letter of recommendation from a Department of Economics faculty member.
- A Xerox copy of the photo page of your passport. If you do not have a passport, or your passport has expired, you can get an application from the Information Window at Campus Center. You should receive your passport about 6-8 weeks after submitting your application and fee, so don't wait too close to departure time!
- Two (2) passport photos (from Kinkos or Campus Center) to accompany your Nihon or Thammasat application.
After admissions by Nihon or Thammasat, you will need to present your original admissions letter with your official passport and a statement of financial ability to live in Japan or Thailand to the Japanese or Thai consulate for the issuance of your visa. The statement of financial ability can be a financial aid award letter, scholarship award letter, or bank statement with the account number blocked out showing a balance of at least $10,000.
Your application will be sent by Darrell Kicker, Manoa Office of International Affairs, 316 Moore Hall, along with a letter of nomination to the exchange program to the partner institution. He will notify you when your acceptance packet arrives in his office. When you have the packet, read all the materials, and complete any additional forms (for housing, arrival, etc.) needed. Send these immediately to the International Exchange Coordinator at Nihon or Thammasat University, and then correspond directly with that person for any additional questions or concerns you may have.
