Averting Hunger and Food Insecurity in Asia

Arsenio M. Balisacan, University of Philippines

Abstract

The paper reviews the current status and experiences on poverty and hunger in Asia, revisits recent findings on the growth-inequality-poverty nexus, and examines the implications of emerging (recurring) issues on public investment, governance, and globalization, for food security and poverty reduction. It distills policy lessons from Asian experiences and identifies research areas crucial to deepening the understanding of the determinants of rural growth and household welfare.
