General Equilibrium Approach

Room 3118, 3rd floor

The speaker will reveal the importance of the role of agriculture through
foreign aid by utilizing the Archetype computable general equilibrium (CGE)
model. He compares the results when foreign aid is utilized to increase the
agricultural capital endowment with an increase in foreign remittance to the
government. Simulation results show that a 10% increase in foreign
remittance to the government has a much smaller impact on poverty reduction
in Africa and Asia; in Latin America, there is no significant difference
between the two policies. The affect on poverty alleviation is much larger
when foreign aid is used to increase capital supply, rather than increasing
foreign remittance to the government.
Dr. Taniguchi's area of specialization is applied microeconometrics,
consumption economics and CGE analysis. He received his Ph.D. in Economics
from Ohio State University.
