Grad Student Yao Li Runner-up for Tiebout Prize

The Western Regional Science Association (WRSA) recently held its 21st Competition for the Charles M. Tiebout Prize in Regional Science. UH Economics graduate student Yao Li was selected as one of the top three candidates among all the submitted papers. Although not the grand prize winner, Yao Li and her fellow runners-up have been invited to present their papers in regular sessions at the WRSA's annual conference. The conference will also honor the achievements of these students at their annual luncheon banquet.

Although the WRSA is a multidisciplinary organization focusing on regional studies, more than half of paper submissions to the Charles M. Tiebout Prize competition come from economics graduate students. The department extends its heartiest congratulations to Ms Yao Li for this fine achievement amongst strong competition!

UH Econ Faculty Authors 2nd Most Read Article

The article, "The Impact of 9/11 and Other Terrible Global Events on Tourism in the United States and Hawaii," won interest over the journal's entire archive and was out-read by only one other article, "Tourism in Crisis: Managing the Effects of Terrorism," from August 1999. The article by the UH group was the second most read article for September and October, and held onto the number 3 spot in November's rankings. The entire list is available here.
