Photo Gallery
The department has been lucky to have a steady supply of shutterbugs throughout its history. Thanks to this plethora of resources, we've decided to split the gallery into several categories. You can also access the full collection here, on Google's Picasa service.
How to Use Google's Picasa Galleries
These galleries collect a number of photos along a certain theme. If you'd like to view a single photo in more detail, simply click on it. There are four major features in these galleries:
- Captions. Most photos in the collection have detailed captions, but only the first few words will display in the gallery. To see the entire caption simply hover over the photo with your mouse.
- Change photo size. On the right-hand side of the screen, there are three boxes marked "Size" directly below the "search photos" button. Click on the size box you prefer to change the display size of photos in the gallery.
- View a slideshow. To see all the photos in the current gallery in a slideshow, click on the "slideshow" button directly above the central photo box. The slideshow will fill the browser window. While viewing, there are several controls available: you can pause or resume the show, increase or decrease time between transitions, hide or view captions, and also progress through the collection manually by clicking on the right- or left-pointing arrows. The "X" on the far right of the control bar will exit the slideshow.
- Zoom in and zoom out. While viewing individual photos, Picasa allows you to zoom in on the photo and drag your view easily around the picture. Simply click on the magnifying glass icon to the far right of the control bar above the photo. Click on the icon again to zoom back out to the normal view.
